Can I Upgrade a Single-Hostname SSL Certificate to a Wildcard SSL Certificate?
No. It is not possible to upgrade a single-name SSL certificate to a wildcard certificate, even if they are issued by the same certificate authority. You must purchase a new wildcard certificate separately.
Refund Policy
If you decide a wildcard SSL certificate better fits your needs within 30 days of purchasing a single-name SSL certificate, contact support and we can refund your initial order so you are only charged for the wildcard.
How to Order a Wildcard Certificate
- Sectigo wildcard - See Ordering a Wildcard SSL Certificate. Covers all single-level subdomains plus the root domain. Costs $100/year.
- Let’s Encrypt wildcard - See Ordering a Let’s Encrypt Certificate. Covers all single-level subdomains (for example, *.example.com), but does not include the root domain (example.com). Free, but requires your domain to resolve with DNSimple.
For help choosing between single-name and wildcard coverage, see Choosing the SSL Certificate Names.
