.EU Domains

To register a .EU domain, you must be based in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway, or be an EU citizen. If you do not meet these requirements, you can register through the DNSimple trustee service.

Who can register a .EU domain?

The .EU registry, EURid, accepts registrants who are one of these:

  • A company with its registered office, central administration, or principal place of business in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway
  • An organization established in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway
  • A person who lives in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Norway
  • A citizen of an EU member state, wherever they live

What if I live outside the EU?

  • If you are an EU citizen, you can register without a trustee. Choose your country in the field on the registration form.
  • Otherwise, check on the registration form. The trustee is a recurring yearly service with its own fee, shown on the form. Learn more in What Is Domain Trustee?

Warning

EURid can suspend and then revoke a .EU domain whose registrant no longer meets these requirements. For example, UK addresses stopped qualifying after Brexit. If this happens, update the contact to an eligible address, or contact support to declare your EU citizenship.

What else should I know about .EU domains?

  • Email address: the registrant’s email address cannot use the domain you are registering. For example, you cannot register example.eu with you@example.eu.
  • Delayed delegation: EURid can hold back a new .EU domain from the zone while it checks for abuse. Until EURid releases it, the website and email on the domain do not work.
  • WHOIS privacy: not available.
