Anyone can register a .FI domain, but the Finnish registry, Traficom, needs identification details for the registrant. Changing the registrant later needs a holder transfer key that the registry emails to the current registrant.
What information does the .FI registration form ask for?
.FI domains are open to individuals and organizations worldwide. The registration form asks for:
- : private person, company, corporation, institution, political party, township, government, or public community
- For individuals: if you are Finnish, or your birth date if you live outside Finland. The birth date is mandatory for individual registrants outside Finland.
- For organizations: : the Business ID (Y-tunnus) from the Finnish Trade Register, or the registration number for organizations outside Finland
How do I change the contact for a .FI domain?
Changing the registrant of a .FI domain is an owner change at the registry, and it requires a holder transfer key. It is not the authorization code used to transfer a domain between registrars.
Starting a contact change requests the key for you. The registry emails it to the address listed as registrant (owner) for the domain, and it is valid for 30 days. If you are taking the domain over from someone else, the key reaches them rather than you.
You cannot change registrars and registrants at the same time. Complete one before starting the other.
