.KR Domains

Last updated

The .KR registry, KISA, requires the registrant of a .KR domain to be located in the Republic of Korea. DNSimple registers .KR domains through its trustee service, which provides that local contact.

Why does a .KR domain need a trustee?

The registrant contact of a .KR domain must be located in the Republic of Korea. The trustee service provides an eligible local contact in the registry’s records, while you remain the beneficiary of the domain. The trustee service is required for every .KR domain at DNSimple. See the .KR price list for the trustee fee.

What does the .KR registration form ask for?

Because the trustee is the registrant in the registry’s records, the registration form does not ask for a Korean registrant certificate. The same applies when you transfer a .KR domain to DNSimple or change its registrant.

What else should I know about .KR domains?

  • Transfers: a transfer to DNSimple adds one year to the registration.
  • Expiration: the registry deletes a .KR domain that is not renewed two days before its expiration date. It can then be restored for 30 days, for a restore fee.
  • DNSSEC: not supported.
  • WHOIS privacy: not available.
