Anyone can register a .NZ domain. The registry has no eligibility restrictions, and DNSimple also supports four third-level .NZ domains. .NZ transfers use a 16-character code called a UDAI and complete right away.
Who can register a .NZ domain?
.NZ domains are open to individuals and organizations worldwide.
Organizations registered in New Zealand may need to provide a New Zealand Business Number (NZBN) and company registration details.
If a third-level version of the name already exists, such as example.co.nz, registering example.nz needs that domain’s UDAI. If several third-level versions exist, the conflict must be resolved first.
How do .NZ transfers work?
- Code: a .NZ transfer needs the domain’s UDAI (Unique Domain Authentication ID), a 16-character code generated by the registry. It is the .NZ version of an authorization code.
- Timing: the transfer completes as soon as the registry accepts the request and the UDAI.
- Renewal: a transfer does not renew the domain.
- New registrations: a domain cannot be transferred in the first five days after it is registered.
Which third-level .NZ domains does DNSimple support?
DNSimple supports registration of these third-level .NZ domains:
- .CO.NZ: commercial organizations
- .GEN.NZ: general purpose
- .NET.NZ: network providers
- .ORG.NZ: non-profit organizations
None of them restrict who can register.
What else should I know about .NZ domains?
- Registration period: 1 to 10 years.
- WHOIS privacy: not available.
