.NAVY Domains

Last updated

Anyone can register a .NAVY domain, but the registry checks every contact address against U.S. OFAC sanctions rules. A contact with a sanctioned country, or a sanctioned state or province within a country, cannot be used for registration or updates.

Which contact addresses does the registry reject?

The registry validates the country, and the combination of country and state or province, against the U.S. Treasury OFAC sanctions list. If a contact uses a restricted combination, the registry rejects the registration or the contact update. For example, a state or province of Crimea is rejected with Ukraine or the Russian Federation as the country.

If your registration is rejected, check the address on the contact assigned as the registrant.

What does registering a .NAVY domain commit you to?

.NAVY is a highly-regulated TLD. You agree to the requirements for highly-regulated TLDs in the Domain Registration Agreement. ICANN also requires registrants to take reasonable steps to avoid falsely implying that they or their business are affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by a country’s or government’s military forces.
