A deactivated DNSimple account is one where services have been stopped. DNSimple services no longer run for the account, and domains using DNSimple name servers stop resolving.
This article covers the two ways an account becomes deactivated and what to do in each case. You may also see a deactivated account described as suspended.
Deactivated after failed payment
Most deactivations follow non-payment. When a subscription renewal cannot be collected, DNSimple retries for 21 days, then cancels the subscription and deactivates the account.
You can still sign in to an account deactivated this way. Your domains, DNS records, contacts, and account history remain in the account.
To restore service, reactivate your subscription. For the full timeline and what stops working, see What Happens if I Stop Paying for My DNSimple Subscription?. For failed invoices, card updates, and renewal retries, see Troubleshoot Billing and Payment Failures.
Deactivated by DNSimple
DNSimple may also deactivate an account when billing, security, or policy issues need to be resolved before service can continue.
Common reasons include:
- Chargebacks issued against the account
- Fraudulent activity
- Repeated failure to pay outstanding invoices
- Identification of the account as a root cause of service disruption for other customers
When an account is deactivated this way, you cannot sign in. The sign-in page returns the message Your account has been deactivated. Please, contact support@dnsimple.com to regain access to your account.
