Integrated DNS Provider Azure DNS

This reference lists the prerequisites, supported features, and record types for connecting Azure DNS as an Integrated DNS Provider. To connect it, see Manage Integrated DNS Providers.
Prerequisites
The dialog asks for:
- A for this Azure account in DNSimple
- Your Subscription ID
- Your Tenant ID
- The name of the Resource Group that holds your DNS zones
- The of an Azure app registration
- A Client Secret for that app registration
You also need Full Access to the DNSimple account.
Supported features
Warning
Azure record set metadata is not kept. It is lost when DNSimple writes to the record set.
- Import integrated zones: when you connect Azure DNS, you choose which zones in the resource group to import into DNSimple. They appear on the Domain Names page.
- Add, remove, and delete zones: add a DNSimple zone to Azure DNS, remove an integrated zone from DNSimple while keeping it at Azure, or delete the zone at Azure.
- Manage records: add, update, and delete Azure DNS records from the DNSimple Record Editor.
- Two-way sync: sync records from Azure DNS to DNSimple, or from DNSimple to Azure DNS.
Supported record types
These record types can be managed and synced between DNSimple and Azure DNS:
Azure DNS does not support SSHFP or SVCB and HTTPS records. Records of types the other provider does not support stay as they are when you sync.
Note
Azure DNS does not let you remove or change the Azure name servers in the NS records at the zone apex. A sync to Azure DNS keeps those NS records and adds any NS records from the source.
Note
URL records are a DNSimple record type with no Azure DNS equivalent. At Azure DNS, a URL record is written as an A record that points to the DNSimple redirector.
